Glance for PV - Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Glance for PV ("the App"), developed by Daniel Szlaski ("we", "us", or "our"), handles information on Apple devices and Android. Shared practices apply to both versions; platform-specific features are labelled below.

Glance for PV is an unofficial third-party companion, not affiliated with or endorsed by Ginlong Technologies, Solis, Sofar Solar, SolaX Power, Growatt, or GoodWe.

1. Information the App Uses

No Glance for PV account is required. We do not operate a server that receives your solar credentials, site coordinates, or energy readings. The App uses credentials, connection settings, station identifiers and names, energy/battery readings, site configuration, cached history, preferences, and purchase entitlement information to provide its features. It has no advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.

Some information is sent directly to the services you use, as explained below. This includes SolisCloud, optional forecast providers, and platform services; it would be incorrect to describe all processing as staying on your device.

2. Solar Connections and Local Storage

For SolisCloud access, the App communicates directly with SolisCloud over HTTPS using your API credentials and station information to request solar-system data. SolisCloud receives authenticated requests and network information such as your IP address. Its handling of data is governed by Ginlong's privacy policy available through SolisCloud. We do not receive your API keys or readings.

Apple: credentials use Keychain and settings/caches use on-device storage. Supported Apple versions can also connect directly to an inverter using its local IP address and port over Modbus TCP. This local protocol does not provide the same transport encryption as HTTPS; use it on a trusted local network.

Android: the current version connects through SolisCloud. API credentials are encrypted locally with a key held in Android Keystore; settings, site coordinates, cached readings and history are held in private app storage. Android cloud backup is disabled in the app configuration. The Apple version's Modbus TCP and Apple Watch features do not apply to this Android version.

3. Optional Solar Forecasts and Location

When forecasts are enabled, the App sends your site's latitude and longitude and panel tilt/direction directly to the selected provider, Open-Meteo or Forecast.Solar. Forecast.Solar also receives configured panel capacity. These providers receive your IP address as part of the request. Coordinates may identify a home or other property. Requests use HTTPS; your SolisCloud API credentials are not included.

You can enter site coordinates manually or use the location feature with your permission. On Android, “Use my current location” obtains a location fix to populate the site coordinates; it does not continuously track your movements. Revoke location permission in system Settings to stop further device-location access. Previously saved site coordinates can still be used for forecasts until you change the configuration or stop using that feature. In Android version 1.0.0 build 3 and later (pending release), forecasts are off until you accept the in-app transfer disclosure and choose “Agree and enable” in Settings → Solar Forecast. This applies to manually entered coordinates too. Changing providers requires consent again. Disable “Enable forecasts” to stop future transfers for that plant; revoking device-location permission alone does not do this. Enabled forecasts may send saved coordinates during background widget or Green energy updates while the app is closed. The developer does not operate a forecast relay, but direct transfers to these providers are still off-device data collection.

Older Android builds may lack this forecast switch; update the app to use these controls.

The providers' processing and retention are described by Open-Meteo's terms and privacy information and Forecast.Solar.

4. Widgets, Notifications, and Apple Services

Widgets and energy notifications display cached or newly fetched solar information. On Android, energy notifications are generated locally when enabled and permitted. People who can see your widgets or Lock Screen may see that information. Background refresh timing depends on your operating system, permissions, network, and battery settings.

Apple only: solar snapshots can sync through Apple's iCloud key-value storage to support companion displays, including Apple Watch. Optional Game Center participation sends solar scores, achievements, and system context such as inverter type and array size to Apple; leaderboard information can be visible with your Game Center profile. Manage participation in the App and your Apple settings. These Apple integrations are not used by the Android version.

5. Purchases

The App offers a one-time purchase for its live features, with the included features and price shown before purchase. Apple processes purchases through the App Store; Android purchases use Google Play Billing. The App processes receipts, transaction or purchase-token information, and entitlement status to verify and unlock access. Android receipt signature verification is performed locally, without a purchase verification server operated by us. We do not receive your payment-card details.

The stores retain purchase records under their own policies: Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy. These also explain their platform services and diagnostics, which depend on your device settings and may involve processing outside your country.

6. Retention and Deletion

Local settings, credentials, caches and history remain until replaced or removed; there is no single automatic expiry for all local data. Disconnecting stops use of the saved solar connection, but should not be treated as erasing all historical settings and caches. On Android, clear the App's storage in Settings or uninstall it to remove local app data. This does not delete your SolisCloud account or store purchases.

On Apple devices, deleting the App removes its ordinary local app data, but Keychain items, iCloud data, and device backups may remain. Manage those through the relevant Apple settings. Turning off Game Center participation stops future reporting; it does not itself erase previously submitted scores. Provider-held records, including forecasts and purchases, follow each provider's retention and deletion procedures.

If you contact us, we receive your email address and message. We retain correspondence as needed to answer your request and meet applicable obligations. We do not sell your personal data or use support messages for advertising.

7. Your Choices and Rights

Use system Settings to manage location and notification permissions. You can choose whether to use forecasts or optional Game Center features. We process support correspondence to respond to requests and for our legitimate interest in supporting the App; we retain it where legally required.

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent where applicable. Email [email protected] for a data-deletion request or privacy question, naming Glance for PV and your platform. Do not send API secrets. We cannot erase data held only on your device or independently by another provider. You may complain to your local data-protection authority, including Poland's President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

8. Children and Policy Updates

We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through support. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information that should be removed. Changes to this policy will be shown here with an updated date.
